I just watched Johnny Knoxville’s documentary on Detroit. While I don’t think that our good pal Johnny is the greatest choice to showcase one of the greatest American cities, he did a good job. He put emphasis on community. How people in the city are trying to make it better, are trying to keep their heads above water. He showcased artists, people that are using the abandoned space to grow urban gardens.
It makes me happy that it’s flourishing, even if that’s not what is being shown by the media.
Being away from family, the auto industry, and the people I grew up with has left me with a disconnect from that area.
I would really like to move back. Michigan is going to always be home.
